# Skrive
Everything you write, in one place that's yours.
Skrive keeps your notes, drafts, and documents as **plain files you own** — calm, personal, and made to last.
## The page and its source
What you read is what's on disk. Skrive keeps your Markdown formatted while you work, and the raw text never leaves — rest your cursor on any line and its syntax surfaces.
This page is a Skrive document. Reveal a line to see the markup beneath it, or flip the whole thing to **source** and read the file itself.
## Yours to keep
Every note is a plain text file in a folder you control. No proprietary store, no cloud holding your words — open them in anything, move them anywhere, read them in thirty years. Software comes and goes; **your writing outlives it**.
## Everything connects
Link any note to another with [[double brackets]], and Skrive keeps the thread in both directions. Your writing becomes a web you can wander — not a pile of files, but a place with paths through it.
## Nothing is lost
Every save is a quiet checkpoint. Walk back through a document's history, see what changed and when, and recover the line you didn't mean to cut. The present is never the only version you have.
## Why it exists
I built Skrive because nothing I used felt like home. My writing was scattered across a handful of apps — each good at one thing, indifferent to the rest. The ones I liked grew heavy, or quietly drifted from what they were for.
So I made the one I wanted: a single, quiet place that keeps your words in plain files and is built to grow without losing itself.
